Enjoying a glass of wine in the airport lounge next to your carry-on luggage might be a thing of the past (at least for a few years) but that doesn’t mean traveling has to totally suck. Here is some advice from a seasoned mom of three who’s done quite a few long distance trips with her kiddos.
-
Bring a baby carrier! If your baby gets fussy during the trip it will be a lifesaver. It will also come in handy when you go through security. I’m a huge Ergo baby Original fan.
-
Pack at least two changes of clothing for baby in separate ziplock bags and one change for you (hello blowouts!) in a ziplock. Don’t get fancy with the outfits!
-
If your baby is bottle-fed make sure to bring enough formula for the whole flight plus an additional three feeds. These formula dispensers are awesome. Just bring two bottles though as you can rinse them out after each use. Trust me, there are dirtier things than unsterilized bottles in an airplane.
-
Throw in a few of baby’s favorite toys, teethers, pacifiers etc.
-
Pack two swaddle blankets. They don’t take up a lot of space and can be used for a multitude of things. These Aden and Anais ones are the best.
-
Organize little diaper changing kits of individual Ziplock bags with one diaper, one disposable changing pad and a small pack of wipes. Changing diapers while on an airplane gets messy real fast and I’ve had to throw out my nice changing pads more than once.
-
If you are nursing, bring a hand pump if baby decides to go on a nursing strike. Traveling is distracting to baby and he might feel too busy to drink from the breast. Pumping will give you some relief.

The Doona goes from car seat to stroller in seconds and is the best travel companion ever.
Happy Travels, mamas!
